"Must you call me that childish nickname?" Rose rolled her eyes at Sirius, scoffing at his feigned offense.
"Unfortunately," Rose began dryly, the word drawn out with a slight drawl, looking from Sirius to Marlene, thinking the tease was directed at Sirius--cause who else would be referred to as a dog?! "I have no control over the dog. He is solely my brother's responsibility. He's done a really awful job of training him. So, honestly, the tutu's would probably be a proper punishment. For the both of them." She gave Marlene a wink.
She was trying really hard not to be laughing at her brother, but he just had the best reactions to things, especially this, now. Sirius wasn't helping either. Her shoulders shook with the suppressed laughter as she continued to hide her face in Severus shoulder.
If Remus was trying to hide something, well, he wasn't doing a good job of it. Either the growing attraction to the little lady, or the compromising position turning him red in the face. Luckily there had been no carefully targeted sticking charms cast for them.
Though, looking again, Tonks seemed rather put off about something as she gathered herself off the floor and away from Remus. Had something happened between the two that she missed?
She looked to Remus, an eyebrow raised in question, reaching over and ruffling his hair, giving him a look that read 'it'll be okay'. She didn't know what happened, and she figured she would get it out of him later. Or maybe not. But he looked rather downtrodden, Tonks was put off; she could put the clues together.
Rose jumped as she was called on to demonstration. "Of course, Professor!"
Boggart eh? She wasn't quite sure what her greatest fear would be. She had a couple of dark thoughts that popped to mind but nothing too terrible. Her outward confidence masked the sudden bundle of nerves she was. Boggarts were terrifying creatures that worked in terrifying ways. She swallowed, slipping off her robe discarding it onto the desk. She glanced at Severus for a moment before walking around the desk to stand where indicated.
She listened to the instruction, it was simple enough. She'd read about boggarts, the theory behind them, really, it was all about putting that theory into practice.
"Riddikulus," she repeated the word after him, the word feeling funny on her tongue as it were. This caused her to giggle lightly.
She took a deep breath and nodded, letting McKay know she was ready for him to open the wardrobe. What she had been expecting, wasn't what she got at all. She was at first, thinking of the ways she would be able to defend herself against the boggart, to perform the Riddikulus charm, to make her laugh, but all those thoughts scattered when her greatest fear loomed towards her.
Their father stepped out of the wardrobe, and she took a step back, wand held aloft, the color draining from her face. Oh, this was much worse than expected. Why couldn't it have been spiders? Or some other type of bug? Or some natural disaster? Hell she would face Voldemort better than this! She chewed on her bottom lip, her eyes wide and frightful. Her wand hand shook as she fought for what she could use to fight this.
Their father smirked at her, looking down at her with burning distaste. "Unfortunatly, there's been a mishap, your brother has died. It's your turn now."
Oh bugger, it got worse. Why couldn't it have been a full moon? She would face the consequences of being found out better than this too!
She closed her eyes, attempting to focus. Think, Lupin! Think funny! Hilarious!

Boggarts of all things. Sirius smirked as he had learned how to deal with them when one had somehow gotten into Grimmauld Place one summer and had observed his grandfather deal with it. That is after Sirius had come across it as a nine year old. So this was nothing new to him. So not a complete puff then. The guy at least had the sensibility to start the year off right with a practical lesson. He loved practical lessons way more than theoretical lessons since he actually got to do something other than sit at his desk.
When the boggart came out and confronted Rose, in the form of their father, and said those words. Siris was concerned and curious more than anything. All the while he thought 'what the hell is it talking about?' He turned quickly in his seat to look at Remus trying to convey that they were gonna talk later for sure. There was no getting out it either, he would hunt his friend down and find out what the hell was going on. Sirius knew that Remus' father wasn't the best sort, but his friend had rarely ever said anything about the man. But now it was out in the open that something wasn't right at all.

She could tell the professor was having a hard time of it and she couldn't blame him, having to teach a bunch of ruffians. Marlene never wanted to teach large groups of people and so she felt a little bit for the man and his current situation. Marlene was intrigued as she had never seen a boggart before but knew what they did, turning into your worst fear, and if she was honest she really didn't want people knowing what she was afraid of as it was rather personal. Maybe she would get lucky and have to go last or not at all, but with how her day was going she doubted it very much.
Rose was the first one up, and Marlene wasn't sure what was going on here since she didn't know too much about what Rose's and Remus' lives were like while they were at home. But it didn't appear to be good, because being told that your brother was dead was never a good thing. And she had let out a gasp as it happened because she could not imagine Remus being dead, nor being used for anything that could lead to his death. "You got this Rose, fight it." She said in a quiet but confident and hopefully encouraging tone, that carried throughout the room.

Severus was a bit uneasy when Rose was called up – not because he didn't think she could do it, but because he wasn't sure exactly what was going to come out of that wardrobe. He was on the edge of hi seat, ready to grab his wand just in case something went wrong. While he had no experience with Boggarts before, he knew the theory behind it all. And he was pretty good at turning things from theory to practice.
However, as she got up there, she was giggling at the incantation already. This shouldn't be too –
Yeah, no, it was terrible. Severus quickly got up from his seat and walked up next to her, taking her hand in his, and giving it a squeeze. He looked from the boggart to her and gave her a confident nod. Yes, he knew she could do this. And good thing it didn't change because he approached, because he rather have his own go at this thing… but he wasn't going to take this away from her. He knew she could do it – and he knew she needed to do it.
He hadn't ever realized how bad it had to have been – for her worst fear to be her father. To have some sort of 'go'. There were so many different ways that could be taken. While he didn't much care for her brother, he also did not like parents who were cruel to their children. He gave a glance back at Remus and then steadied on Rose once more. After this was all said and done, he was going to have a word. Possibly curse her father.
"You can do it."

Well, wasn't that just fine and dandy? Boggarts.
Though, she wasn't expecting the amount of insight one boggart could give a person. When the wardrobe opened and she witnessed Rose's reaction, her eyes fell to Remus. She couldn't imagine... it just, it was just wrong. What was going on? What sort of thing would have her brother die? And for her to be next? God...
She didn't know if she would ever be able to breach that topic, with either sibling, as it seemed that would be something that they would rather let die. She bit her bottom lip, feeling rather taken aback, her anger forgotten.

Remus's face drained of color immediately. What he expected to emerge from that wardrobe was anything but that. He didn't want to see that man, let alone – oh no, did she know? If she feared that he would die during their… outings… then did she know what his father had made him do? How dangerous it was and how much it hurt – and how if he didn't, he had threatened to use her instead? His heart was beating out of his chest, a beating drum in his ears.
He caught Sirius's eye and he cursed under his breath. Great, now he was going to have to talk about it. He didn't like lying, but he also knew that lying would be better than the truth. It would make him worry less. How did she even find out what his father did? He covered his face, pinching the bridge of his nose tightly. This was going to be a fun lesson, and here they were, unraveling things that ought not be unraveled. He quickly looked to the professor, hoping he'd stop it, but it didn't appear he would be stepping in any time soon.

Ah. Well. Hm. That wasn't what he expected. The Lupins seemed to be well adjusted and he had heard about Lyle from his talks with Dumbledore, and he didn't seem like he was a terrible sort of person. And yet, here he was, his own daughter's worst fear. He watched for a moment, his lips pressed together.
"Focus, Rose." His voice was low, but it sounded as if he was cheering her on. As if after she did it he would fist pump and hope no one saw. That wasn't the plan, but he did want her to succeed. Perhaps he should have given them better explanation. But what else was there? Confront your fear. Make it something funny. Laugh. Go onto the next person. He crossed his arms, a pensive look on his face.

She stared into her father's smirking face, heart racing. Why did it have to be this of all things?! She was struggling for something. Anything. She knew she had to think faster because his gaze burning to her own was only going to make it worse, her anxiety, hell, Remus' anxiety as it was. She could only guess how this was affecting him. He was never supposed to know... that she knew. None of them was supposed to know. She had so many secrets... Not now, Lupin! No need for your Lupinisms now!
Luckily, her back was turned, so she couldn't see anyone's reactions. Especially not her brothers. She knew that was going to be the worse out of them all.
She heard Marlene's words of encouragement and Severus'; felt his hand too. She didn't look at him, her heart leaping in her chest. It was something, for him to encourage her, in front of her brother, to show that amount of care. His presence steadied her, grounded her, brought her back to reality. Her father wasn't here. It was... it was an illusion. It was exactly what she needed, as a small smile formed on her lips.
Steeling herself, she gave a nod to Professor McKay and she tightly gripped her wand, looking her 'father' straight in the eyes. She summoned up her funny thought - the one she had been working on before her thoughts had scattered--her hand gripping Severus'--raised her wand and gave the incantation. "Riddikulus!"
There was a sharp pop and boggart-dad morphed into a scene of Remus precariously positioning himself in a rather odd form. It had been a game of Red-Light, Green-Light. The position itself was incriminating, but it did the trick of having her giggling again. Hopefully, after all, that had happened, the slightly incriminating memory was the least of his worries.
She chanced a look at Remus as she removed her hand from Severus', pushing him back and into his chair before walking around to her own. She had a feeling he had questions now. Of course, he would why wouldn't it? She dug in her bag for the bar of chocolate, breaking off half of it before turning, and looking to Remus apologetically, sliding the other half to him, before focusing on her own half, and her breathing.
She shook, she was still pale, she would get over it, once the chocolate kicked in. She was breaking off pieces and slowly eating it, trying to feign nonchalantness, but that was hilarious, given her strong reaction just at the boggart. Soon, she was feeling better. She would have to thank Severus for his support... later.
Sirius was up next.

Rose had finally gotten the spell off and had turned her dad into Remus in some precarious position which made him laugh. Sirius got out of his chair as he was called up next, and as he passed Rose's desk he dropped a piece of parchment on her desk telling her 'Great Job!'. Some called him a bully, others thought him a saint, and then there were always those that had mixed reactions as to how he acted. It wasn't a long walk to the front, but it kind of felt like it was a long walk since he was still trying to figure out what his worst fear was. Oh that's right, it was that one thing.
When the boggart came out of the closet, it was his mother, who began shouting at the top of her lungs at the site of him and how he was a disgrace. It set him on edge as he had his wand by his side, but he knew that it would change soon, into something else, something that he didn't want anyone to see, but it was going to happen regardless. "Come on you hag, change already." Growled out which sound very similar to how he growled as Padfoot. Not a moment later it should. 'You'll pay for dishonoring this family!' It changed to show the whole class a six year old Sirius beaten, a couple of broken limbs, and suffering from exposure to the cruciatus curse, a favorite of his mother's for punishing him. But this was the first time that it had happened and would happen many times more in his life. His fear was being beaten/broken/cursed all by people he thought had cared for him.
With a look of contempt on his face Sirius, flicked his wand while saying "Riddikulus!" in an offhanded tone. The boggart transformed into the sorting hat let out a belch before it began to sing some stupid song, like it usually did every year at the feast, but this time in a drunken stupor. Seriously how could you not find that funny, when a magical hat has some how gotten drunk. Before he banished it non-verbally back into the wardrobe. "Theres your boggart professor." Was his parting sentence before he went and sat down in his chair, while Marlene was called forward.

Marlene watched as Rose came back to her seat with that ashen look on her face, and Marlene being Marlene gave her friend a comforting hug, before righting herself in her own seat. She was curious what made Sirius, afraid. But what happened next made her cover her ears, because it wasn't something that she expected at all. She could see why he would be afraid of his mother, but it was what it changed into when Sirius had told the hag to change, and there it was a young beaten and broken Sirius. Her heart felt a bang of sadness for her friend, whom she was rather fond of, but no one else knew that.
When she got up Marlene felt the involuntary gulp, that she was sure the others heard. It came out of the Wardrobe and promptly fell over revealing her mother dead and unmoving, and then it was her siblings Jacob, and Victoria. She felt the tears fall from her eyes, and also her knees wobbled a little, but she stood firm not wanting to fall to her knees since she knew that this wasn't real. But all the same it left her with the feeling of being all alone in the world, because it would be a very lonely and cold world without her mother, and siblings in it. "Riddkulus!" Marlene said while pointing her wand at the boggart. Which changed to a large black dog, reminiscent to Sirius' animagus form, on a unicycle, wearing a pink tutu, and juggling balls. She couldn't help but laugh at that and smiled as she turned and walked back to her seat, while wiping the tears from her face with part of her sleeve.

He watched as Sirius took his turn. Severus couldn't help but wince slightly. So far, both boggarts were parents. This was off to a great start. Especially with the visual of a young Sirius beaten – something he, himself, had experienced. He thought he would take joy in seeing Sirius struggle and to see him in pain, but he just felt sick. He was quite relieved when it turned into the sorting hat.
Marlene soon went up as it was her turn next. Her mother, and… well they looked like her siblings possibly? Someone related to her. He supposed he could understand that, but he watched on with not much feeling showing on his face. He just waited for it to change, and soon it did. It at least told him that her family was important to her. Which would be useful later, especially if they were on opposite sides.
It was finally his turn. He could feel his heart beating a bit faster, but his face remained blank. He couldn't show weakness. He had to show his strength. If he continually held back those emotions, he would be better in the long run. The Dark Lord had no use for emotion in their work. The goal was clear, and he couldn’t let himself become a burden. He took in a deep breath approaching the boggart. It took a bit of time to decide. It nearly stopped on a figure that looked much like Severus, but older – however, it changed quickly, just stopping long enough one could see the figure. His father, he figured. That's what he thought it would change into, but that wasn't it.
When it finally decided, and stopped, Severus took a half a step back, his lower lip quivering. Before him stood the man, the mystery, the conqueror, Lord Voldemort himself. Why did it change into him? Severus looked very confused before he found himself dropping to a knee in front of the Dark Lord. It was only a Boggart. It was only a Boggart. So why was he reacting like this. His normally pale face looked almost translucent now, absolutely no color to his face, which had the expression complete wiped off of it.
It was a Boggart. Think of something funny. However, could he actually change his image into something ridiculous? That would be disrespectful to him. It would make him the laughingstock of this school – he couldn't disrespect the Dark Lord like that. His face was facing the ground, one hand clenched into a fist and on the ground as he bowed to the figure.
"Milord."
It was just a boggart. But it was his image. He couldn't disrespect it. His throat was dry which was apparent from when he spoke. What he was greeted with, stung his ears, the high-pitched sound of the Dark Lord responding to him. But it wasn't one of agreement or happiness or pride – it was scathing. It was of disappointment.
"When I promised you a place among my ranks, it was under certain conditions, Severus." Severus bit his lower lip, not moving from his bowing position. "You could never fail me. But today you have shown me, shown everyone your weakness."
"I did nothing of the sort, milord."
"You exist, Severus. That, in itself, is a failure." Severus could feel his frown weighing down on his face. "Your wand, Severus." He looked up with a look of complete confusion. He looked at his hand which held his wand. "Your wand. I will kill you myself with your own wand." His lower lip quivered, the entire world around him forgotten, no words from the outside getting to his mind, focused solely on this figure.
Could he deny a Boggart in the Dark Lord's form? What if word got out that he disobeyed he Dark Lord? Even if it was a boggart, it had his face, his voice, everything was just like the man – he'd only met Voldemort once, but once was enough to have all of that burned into his head. Shaking slightly, he raised his wand, handing it over to the boggart form of Lord Voldemort.
…
The class would see a certain professor, wand aimed and ready to go.
…
It was very plainly seen that he was terrified. There was no holding back his expression. "Kiss my shoes," 'Voldemort' ordered. Severus bent down again, his hands shaking slightly before hitting the floor. He crawled over, kissing he shoes of the boggart. This was just a class. Why couldn't he do anything but follow what he was told. He already handed away his wand. His only defense.
However, a thought appeared in his mind. One of hope. The image of Lily – the image of Rose, the pair of them, laughing together, his arms around their shoulders and they were laughing. The future he was hoping he could have. He couldn't let it end here. It was just a boggart. The Dark Lord would never want a servant who lost to such a creature. Fear. He couldn't let fear control him. The fear of disobeying. The fear of disappointing the Dark Lord. The fear of the Dark Lord in general the instant he did anything at all wrong. The fear that the Dark Lord was just saying he could join after graduation, only to be teasing the horse with a carrot.
In a quick swift move, Severus stood, grabbing his wand from the Boggart, and pointing it right at it. Even then, his hand was shaking slightly. "Riddikulus!" He shouted the spell, and soon the image of Lord Voldemort turned into a cat playing a piano. The cat meowed to some Weird Sister's song he had heard before.
Severus shakily started walking to his seat, his face blank and showing absolutely no emotion on his face. When he sat down, he stared blankly forward, going over in his head what had just happened. Voldemort was his boggart. Being a disappointment to him, but he found himself frozen the instant he saw him even before the Boggart even started talking. What was wrong with him?

After Roses' and Sirius', Marlene's Boggart seemed rather tame. Normal. A usual fear for anyone. But then Severus got up and turned all three of those on their head. She watched as Rose shifted, uncomfortable in her chair, she couldn't see her face, but if Tonks was any good at guessing, she could say that whatever emotions she had been feeling prior to Voldemort walking out of that damn wardrobe were long forgotten. Pursing her lips, Tonks stood, knowing it was her turn. She moved to the front of the room, smirking.
"Prepare to be disappointed kiddos."
She waited for McKay to open the wardrobe again. Seriously, after Voldemort just being in the room, there's literally nothing else that could be as drastic. At least in Tonks' mind.
Well, she was wrong.
The door was slowly pushed open but the nose of a dark-coloured animal. Yellow eyes peered out at her. Tonks swallowed as it slowly approached her, almost the size of a small bear, its lips pulled back in a snarl. The Werewolf continued its path towards her and she stepped back.
Suddenly, "Riddikulus!" and with a CRACK the wolf turned into a cute little puppy whose hind legs were coming up off the ground while it ate its food, and then fell over into it.
She was smiling, but her eyes were wide as she turned to sit, once again.

Well, to be fair, Remus completely expected Sirius's boggart from the terrible things he heard about his family. Luckily Remus never had the misfortunate of meeting his mother. However, things didn't settle very well in his stomach when it changed to a young Sirius on the ground. His nose flared up and he wanted to curse the hell out of that Boggart. He could feel his grip on his wand tightening up but it eventually changed and he relaxed a bit.
Then came Marlene's boggart and honestly, he felt terrible for her. He wasn't sure if when he went up there, there'd be a dead Rose on the ground. Possibly with a Severus standing over her with a victorious smile. He wanted to give her a hug. However, he stayed in his seat like a good boy, not wanting to get in trouble.
Boy that whole seen with Severus… Remus just watched with fear, mixed with pity. The guy was afraid of Voldemort, and yet, there he was, the thing he feared the most. Even handing his wand over to a Boggart in the form of the snake to be killed by it. That was almost… sad. He didn't want Severus, no matter how much he hated him, to feel trapped like that. If he didn't belong with the Death Eaters, he was better off dead – that's what Remus go from it.
However, when Tonks went up, his face paled. Oh god. She was afraid of – Oh god. He could feel himself starting to hyperventilate already. Luckily there were a few others before it turned to his turn, so he had time to calm down just a bit. As the nameless students went up, he tried to slow his heart, blink the tears away from his eyes. He swallowed thickly, his eyes looking anywhere but at Tonks. Finally, when it was his turn he found himself slowly walking towards the wardrobe. He was shaking already, his eyes slightly puffy and red. He did not look like he was ready to face a boggart.
"Are you –"
"I'm fine," Remus insisted, waving off the concern the professor was showing. He swallowed as the wardrobe opened once more. A scene appeared before them – a window and a girl standing near it. In the window, there were clouds, slowly revealing a full moon, and the girl? Nymphadora Tonks. Except there was something different about her he couldn't quite place his thumb on…
"Good news, Remus! I'm pregnant."
And that's when his breathing literally stopped. His eyes kept flicking to the window that appeared right behind her. And then the boggart changed forms to that same girl, on the ground, bloody, and essentially torn apart by what would look like a wolf. His lower lip quivered and he just… turned on the spot and ran from the room.

There was something seriously wrong with some of these kids. Sure, his own boggart was confusing to anyone who would see it, but in a lot of ways it was messed up. But these kids were only 15. Why did they have such horrifying fears? In reality he was fifty-one, even if everyone thought he was thirty-nine. He had seen a lot of things in his life – his parents slowly dying before him, being convicted of a crime he didn't do, and some of those things he saw while traveling could give people nightmares. But dear Merlin! They needed to phone up the Ministry and have these kids taken away from their parents!
They were 15 and it killed him inside that they were worrying about things like this. Shitty parents. Tom. Werewolves. Having kids. That girl having your kid dying. Family dying on you. It made him angry that his own classmate had caused the world to go into such chaos as to make these children have such horrifying fears. When the last kid ran from the room, McKay sighed, feeling he probably should have stepped in. He quickly banished the boggart to the cupboard.
"Wait here, I'll be right back. No fighting while I'm gone, or I'll give you all detention. If you leave, I will give you detention as well." His voice was stern, less shaky than it had been the entire class. He looked around at each of the students and then chased after Remus.
He found him in the hall near the classroom, crying softly to himself. McKay had a feeling he wasn't quite in the right mind, but he had insisted that he was fine. McKay took a seat next to the sobbing boy and placed an arm around his shoulders. Remus flinched slightly, but upon realizing who it was, settled down. "I was the reason my best friend died."
There was an awkward silence because McKay continued. "There was a big fight, and my friend tried to protect me and ended up dying. I had no control over it." He pressed his lips together and nodded slightly. "I'm not going to ever claim I know exactly what you're going through, but, well, frankly, it sucks. It's only natural to fear things you cannot control. There's absolutely nothing you can do to stop things out of your control."
"But… you can at least try to help lessen the affects, right? You can't keep being scared of what you can't control. If you let fear control you, everything you fear will come true. Seize control of your life, control your fear. What is going to happen is going to happen, nothing you do will change those things, so you should worry about what you can control."

Well. That... was... just a whole lot of nope.
How was poor Professor McKay supposed to know that this lot was going to be the most... disturbed children he would have to teach? Hogwarts should probably set up therapy. Not like any of them would use it. Well, okay, Marlene was okay. Three parents, some siblings, Voldemort.....
And she didn't quite know how to Process Tonks' boggart. She had to admit her heart did sink quite a bit at seeing those piercing yellow eyes. Well, that was two very deep cuts. Both her and Remus. Shit.
It was then Remus' turn after a few nameless students, which was better for them all, give them all a bit of a breather. The spirit of the room lifted a bit because none of the other kids had any sort of dark backstory. Boggarts, Rose surmised, she hated them. Hated them more than Voldemort himself, because honestly, something that could show their deepest fears in front of everyone like that? Needed just to never exist ever.
And of course, Remus' would be the icing on the cake. A full moon. And a girl, who looked a lot like Tonks. This lesson was a mess. She had a headache, chocolate wasn't helping. Severus probably knew way too much about everything now.
Silence befell the room and every instinct was firing on running after him when he bolted. But before she could bolt, McKay instructed them to stay and he left the room, presumedly to go after him. She watched him leave, a little bit surprised.
The door shut and she turned forward, raising her hands to scrub at her face. That was... way too much personal info in one go. That boggart must've had some sort of revenge plotted; had it been locked up that long? Geez.
She... didn't know what to do, or say, but she found herself glancing at Severus. Sure, your father hated you and your brother Lupin; but how can you feel sorry for yourself?
Turning, she reached out slowly, pressing her palm to Severus' cheek. They all had demons, it seems, she wasn't supposed to know it went that far, in Severus' case, but there it was. As she looked at him, there was no pity in her eyes, only concern for his well being.
She wouldn't be surprised though, if she faced that boggart again, it would take a different form, now that it had been presented to realistically in front of her.
