Remus was sitting in the library, reading up on Dementors, seeing as McKay seemed to be giving them some lectures on Dementors and he had a bad feeling about it… The guy seemed a bit eccentric and he wouldn't put it past him to bring in an actual dementor for them to practice on. He hadn't gotten around to practicing the spell very much himself, but he felt it was something he needed to read up on better. It was something that was incredibly difficult, especially since he had a dearth of happy memories. However, he wanted to learn a bit more about how Dementors worked in general.
Remus had found a passage that spoke about chocolate and boy that made him happy. Apparently, chocolate helped against the residual effects Dementors had on people, and he liked any excuse to have chocolate. Maybe he could ask McKay for some chocolate as 'studying' dementors. That'd be smart right? Either way, Remus was reading through this nice big text on dementors and he was getting a slight chill. His toes stretched out a bit, as he looked down at his bare feet. Ah yes, bare feet were more comfortable to him than wearing shoes all the time even if McGonagall always seemed to get onto him for it.
'What if you step on something?!'
'It's not like if I get a scar from stepping on something it'll really be noticeable.'
Which was true. It was just one of his weird things about him. He didn't make a habit of it, but occasionally he'd just roam the halls barefoot. The feeling of the cold stone beneath his feet, the air between his toes – he didn't know why but it was nice.

The heart of the matter was that this was a place of home, of comfort. It always had been. But even in this time, in this place, there were things yet to be done. Yet to be told. This place, held stories of every capacity. A capacity of learning, of hope was to be found here. There was a time and a place for everything, even the studies that one had desired to attain. Here, of course, as she walked into the library, she wondered what mysteries she would uncover. In Hogwarts, there were tons to be found. Row after row seeing books on both light magic, the history, of it all, it still astounded her. She'd come to get a bit of light reading in. Plus it was a good escape when her mind was cluttered given the turmoil she'd been facing lately. Year after year it seemed all the same. The comforts of friendship and bravery. She sought the comfort that knowledge here in these walls held most dear. There were individuals here, some things were as they should be. Some, however were not. It had not taken long until she noticed a familiar soul sitting at one of the tables. One she recognized, in more than one way. He, like her was a Prefect, but he was also Potter's little friend. Albeit she had nothing bad to say about him. He was kind, when his little friends, were difficult. Out of all the boys, she actually could respect Remus most of all. She believed in him. They worked well together. She had to catch up on some homework which was another reason why she was in here. There were certain classes she enjoyed, and well, the only one that stuck out as you never knew what to expect was the Defense Against the Dark Arts. She couldn't help but notice the book that Remus had in his hands as she had approached the table. "Hey Remus. Studying up on Dementors?" She couldn't help but ask. She sat down at the table, if he wanted her to leave, all he had to do was ask. She wouldn't stay where she wasn't wanted. Remus J. Lupin

Remus quickly looked up, jumping slightly. He had been so absorbed in his reading, he wasn't prepared for someone to come up and talk to him. However, when he looked up it was Lily and he couldn't help but shine a happy smile at her. While James liked Lily, well more like loved her, Remus just enjoyed her presence. She was such a good friend and she always knew how cheer him up. "Ah well yeah. I've not been able to cast the charm yet, so I thought reading a bit would help. McKay seems to be setting up for some sort of big project again, and I'd rather not make a show like I did with the Boggart…" Seeing how he ran out of the room crying during the Boggart lesson. He didn't want to do something embarrassing yet again. Plus, he knew he needed to toughen up. Dementors would make all those bad feelings go away. "You can join me if you want." He pointed to the chair next to him, wiggling his bare toes. "Don't tell Pince, I have some chocolate." He offered her a hershey kiss, looking around paranoid that the librarian would come in and stop him from having his snacks in the library. "I can't seem to find a good memory for the spell."Lily J. Of course, she wasn't planning on scaring anyone. He seemed to be so absorbed. She had chosen to stop at his table, as he was the only one she recognized in the vicinity aside from Madam Pince. "Sorry, Remus, didn't mean to startle you." A soft chuckle escaped her lips. Remus was the one she actually liked. Tolerated even. He was a good guy, and always knew how to make her smile. She'd rather spend time with him than she would have Potter. But that was besides the point. She enjoyed Remus' company. She looked towards Remus, understanding the charm in which he was speaking about. "Well, the spell isn't that difficult. Though I wouldn't put it past the professor to set up some sort of project either. Though if I recall, a dementor unlike the boggart needs a happy memory to make the spell work. "Expecto Patronum." I think that's the spell anyway. Personally speaking I think the dementor is a bit more freaky than the boggart. At least with the boggart you can finish it off with laughter. From what I understand, fighting off the dementors, a real one, not a boggart of a dementor is tricky. That's kind of advanced magic." She didn't like the idea of dementors given the fact from what she read, they fed on fear. She immediately took a seat next to him. "I won't tell if you won't." She chuckled, taking a piece of the Hershy Kiss. She nodded. "I've never tried to use the spell. Or at least practiced it. Surely you have a good memory you can use. You know like the first time you met the guys? When you became a Prefect? I know for me, it's when I first conjured a flower in my hand. I was nine. Didn't have a clue as to what it all meant. 'Course that memory wasn't strong enough. At least that's what Professor McKay said when I asked about it." She shook her head. She hated the idea of not having something that worked quite the way that it was intended. Remus J. Lupin

Remus tilted his head and looked deep in thought for a moment. He knew it was an advanced piece of magic, but it was something he really wanted to do well. He may only be fifteen years old, but he was scared of being sent to Azkaban because of his condition and keeping it a secret – after all he was a danger to all of those around him. "Well, when I became a prefect, at first I was excited, but then… I got really sad. I thought 'what if they hate me because I'm a prefect' – hell I even tried to hide it for a bit from them. Not only that, right after I got the letter, my father came in and when I told him the good news, he didn't seem to care very much." He chuckled nervously rubbing the back of his head. When he met Sirius and James and Peter? Hm. He shook his head. "I met the others on the train, but it wasn't incredibly happy. I didn't realize at that point how big it would be – I just laughed a bit and then ran away from them. I was honestly terrified. I hadn't really met anyone else my age before. I mean I met people but never 'hung out' with them.""I don't think I have a powerful enough memory. Maybe when I told Dora I liked her? Heh… I guess my life hasn't been the happiest you know?"Lily J. The only piece of information she had was knowing that Defense against the Dark Magic was tricky. Especially certain spells. Although, honestly she liked the challenge to it. It brought out a side of her that many didn't see. Not necessarily being competitive but it made her work harder when things were a challenge. She did what she could to try to do the best she could in every course. This one was no exception. At fifteen, things were certainly changing. Secrets were both made and exposed. She smiled at Remus. He was a good guy even if he couldn't see it for himself. She could see him as a friend. Even though out of his friends, him and Sirius were perhaps the two she could tolerate, at least more easily than she could Potter and Pettigrew. "I understand. I mean, not entirely but you have to do what is right for yourself. I understand you know wanting to do what is right for your friends. For our house but even you know that there are rules for a reason. I had to explain, when I got promoted to being a Prefect what that meant to my parents. They're muggles and don't quite understand our ways. But they've always been supportive. And anyone that hates you for following the rules? Well they're not much of a friend, are they?" It was the honest truth. She nodded. "I didn't exactly have the easiest first ride on the train either. I was sitting next to Severus and we were conversing among ourselves when your little buddies, Potter and Black, popped into the compartment. Didn't exactly leave a good impression on either of us."She shook her head as she looked right towards Remus. "Happiness isn't hard to find. You just have to know where to look. Even in the darkest of times, so to speak. And I've always found that it's okay to be whom you are, whether others accept it or don't. Being different simply makes you special. Point is there are certain things--certain individuals that make more of an impact on you than even you know at the time. I mean look at you now, you may have run away from your friends but they never gave up. They say, to create a Patronus, it's a more complex spell. It's not just the you know happy memory, although that helps. It's quite difficult to produce. It's not something that--as the professor says, happens over-night. That you have to work at it. Which explains why you're here studying right? I guess that's what I'm here for. I want to at least attempt it. In case I ever run into a Dementor, unlike the Boggart we have been dealing with in class. I don't have a happiest memory either. Magic, has been both a curse and a gift at the same time. You could use how Dora makes you feel. The happiness there? For me, it's--this whole experience. There's good and the bad." She hoped that it made a bit of sense. She could ramble when it came to working on studies. She liked a challenge and the Patronus was a challenge. She hadn't mastered one yet, though she had the hope that she someday would. "But aside from school-work? How've you been?" She asked in all honesty. They were prefects together and so she trusted him a bit more than she had his little clique--of friends. Remus J. Lupin

Lily was just one of those people Remus felt he could talk to. That person he wasn't particularly close to – meaning as close as he was with his fellow marauders though still close – who he felt comfortable around. He felt he could speak his mind, talk about his worries, and all of that. With the Marauders he was always afraid he would slip up and they would hate him – really it was a problem with not liking himself. However, as the years have gone by, he's been more and more himself around them, but he still didn't really stand up to them all the time. "W-Well you're right – when they found out they were happy for me, Sirius, James and Peter. I mean, I think they were happy because now they have a prefect on their side. Either way, I mean, I've been trying. It's hard sometimes. We're having fun, and as long as it doesn't… go too far, I won't step in." Remus looked at his lap for a moment. "I don't doubt those two idiots left a bad impression. They're… a bit much. But it got better when we got to Hogwarts and… well, we're here now." He chuckled thinking back to those first few days at Hogwarts. It was really a turning point in his life, even if he couldn't name one exact point that was stronger than the others. Focus on his feelings for Dora? That was definitely a way to put it. That could possibly work. He really, really liked her, and every time he was around her his heart jumped around. That was… not a way he had thought of the happy memory – to use a feeling – that was… interesting. Yeah, he stood up pulling out his wand and saying the incantation, his mind focused on Dora's smiling face. It didn't emerge immediately, but slowly the silvery substance spilled from his wand – there wasn't a shape to it, but he could slightly make out a basic shape of it. He smiled and looked at Lily. "That's much better han I had done before!"Lily J. Evans

It was easy talking to James. it was easy. Safe even. Yet, she knew they weren't as close as he was with the Marauders. But that was easy, enough to ascertain. Yet she enjoyed spending time with Remus. She listened, she didn't judge. She had always been able to see the good in someone even when they couldn't see it within themselves. She knew that Remus wasn't one to say no to his friends. Especially the three he was closest to. Remus needed to open up and to relax. Which she knew wasn't all that easy. She had her suspicions as to why the boys were as close as they had gotten. "Yes, well I'm not all that surprised on that. As long as it doesn't get out of line, I won't step in. I like the idea of everyone having a good time, you know? We all just have to figure it out how to--handle certain boundaries more or less." Everything about this place was a turning point. Sometimes a good thing, sometimes a bit difficult nevertheless. She also hoped that Remus could handle being a Prefect. That he would not turn his back on something that needed remedied. Yes pranks were all fun and well, but there was sometimes a line that needed to be drawn. But for now, she needed to also help him with something just as equally important. His studies. Studies that she too needed to work upon. Focusing on relationships--on feelings wasn't always easy. She watched as he used what she had to say to focus on the incantation. It was quite an improvement. "Happy memories aren't just what you see or hear, but what you feel. That's what makes them powerful. And there is no greater power than one that comes of strong feelings, maybe even love. Just keep practicing Remus and you'll have it down in no time. Maybe soon you'll have a form more than just the silvery substance at the tip of your wand, that you'll see what exactly your patronus is. Mine didn't just happen over night but I worked at it. I still work at it. You can only go up from here." A smile lingered as she looked at him. She trusted Remus and knew he could do anything that he put his mind to. "Love is one of the most powerful forms of magic there is. At least according to several books I've read. And I do believe that even Professor Dumbledore said something about happiness, that it can be found even during your most darkest of hours."Remus J. Lupin
