One very well-known fact about Alastor Moody was the fact he got into a lot of fights. And he usually did very well in them. Usually it ended with him getting detention, and warned of expulsion – which he would tread carefully around, never doing anything that would get him expelled, but close? That was free game. He'd been dueling two kids at the same time, when one had insinuated they'd hurt this first year. Moody, while he wasn't a Gryffindor when it came to chivalry, couldn't stand people like that and jumped in.
However, it was two against one, and by the end of it, he wound up in the hospital wing, a chunk of his leg blown out, and no bones in said leg. Should've seen the other guys. Luckily, they were broken up by a professor, and Moody, since he was defending someone and didn't actually cause this one, didn't get in as much trouble as the other two, one of which ended up going home and wasn't welcome back to school. Good riddance.
Al was incredibly proud of sending them packing, even if he was going to have a week of detention once he regrew his bones and healed up the wound on his leg – Madame Pomfrey said he'd be out of the hospital wing in two days. That meant he was gonna be out in one. He was already planning his next moves too.

Alina had been wandering the castle and its grounds when she had come upon the scene of three students dueling. Two against one, was never good odds, and like any decent human being she would have jumped in and stopped the duel herself, but the lone student was holding his own and didn’t need the help. At least not by what she could see. And so, she had stood off to the side as the duel, or rather fight went on, and kept waved her wand at any stray spells that could hit other students, and sent them either different directions or just dissipated them.
A Professor had come along eventually and had sorted things out. One got expelled or suspended indefinitely, and the lone student whom had been identified as Alastor Moody. Whom she had been told about by the professors, and that he was always getting into fights. And she had also been told about the a few certain fifth years that were troublemakers as well.
Alina had made her to the hospital wing not too long after the fun and games were over with. The same professor that had broken up the fight had tried to berate her for not stopping it, but all she did was look on with a bored expression and when the professor had stopped Alina had asked if they were finished and explained that they weren’t her boss, and walked off. Once at the hospital wing, she slipped inside and made her way over to Mr. Moody, yeah that just sounded weird. Last name it was then. “Well done out there Moody. Two against one, I say a job well done. But your wand work, and combat techniques need improvement.” She commented, as she sat down on the bed next to where Moody’s bed was located.

He looked up, leg propped up as he nursed on the terrible skelegrow. Damn kid using a spell that would literally make his bones disappear. It'd be fine in the end, of course, because of magic, and he'd be as fit as a fiddle, but boy this stuff was nasty. Not to mention he had to drink it from this bottle, which could easily be poisoned, instead of his flask. He didn't trust it, but it was necessary. If he was going to die from this, he had already written a note saying to check the skelegrow and that it was Madame Pomfrey who poisoned him. After all, she had showed him herself making the tonic and no one else touched it – it was the only way he said he would take it.
He looked up as an older lady approached him. Raising an eyebrow, he regarded her, his blue eye spinning a bit and studying her, before it whirled back to its normal position as he stared forward. "Improvement? Bah. They were mediocre."
He waved her off, but he was a bit curious – he'd heard about a hit-witch who had been hired to protect the school given the mounting pressure from Voldemort. From his knowledge, she wasn't a professor, and so it was likely she was that mercenary. "What would you know about it, eh?"

“If they were mediocre, how did they get you?” Alina asked a in a challenging tone. “Because if they could get you, that must mean that you are mediocre as well. And therefore, I’m wasting my time even talking to you.” She wasn’t going to let him off easily, she had heard that he was one of the best fighters in the school, but maybe that was all hearsay. “But yes, you could use some improvement. As you’re rather slow and a few other things.”
She mulled the question over for a couple of minutes. “Well that is quite simple. I was an auror at one point in my life. And doing what I currently do for work, well one has to be on top of their game, but constantly learning, to improve themselves. Because you never know when you’re going to be put to the test.” Alina wasn’t full of herself like others that she had worked with. She knew that there was always room for improvement, in anything that one did. “But I digress, and I’ll let you have this one as I’m sure you’ve already figured it out since I’m not part of the staff here, but I am a hit-witch or mercenary. Call it whatever you wish.”

Moody had to admit, she had a point. He narrowed his eyes. He didn't enjoy being outsmarted like that. "What other things?" He had to admit he was curious – he wanted to know what she thought and how he could improve. He knew he was a bit slow – in general that's how it was for him. He was more of a tank than anything else – slow but powerful. At least that's how he liked to think of himself. Whether that was true or not… well that was up to those around him.
After what had happened over this summer, he'd become a bit more… driven than before – and that was saying something seeing as he was very driven prior to this. However, seeing has he was attacked by a bunch of masked death eaters, and ended up losing his eyes and Dumbledore was the only reason he was still alive… He wanted to get better, so he didn't have to depend on others. "There's only question that I can ask that would make any difference in my opinion of you. Do you help the dark witches and wizards if they have enough money, eh?" He narrowed his eyes at her, as if her answer would determine whether or not he cooperated with her. Because it would.

Good, she had him asking questions. Alina wasn’t going to waste her time talking to anyone that couldn’t think for themselves. But first she decided to answer his question and nip that whole thing in butt before it got started. “It may seem that way to some.” Alina was not one to work for money alone. “My views are far different than theirs, and I would never allow myself to work for dark witches and wizards. Even if they had all the gold in the world. I’d rather die and take as many of them with me as possible.” She wasn’t going to lie about something like this. Alina had her own morals, and something that she would never do is help out dark witches and wizards. It would go against what she stood for.
“As for your first question well, that is rather easy to answer, now isn’t it?” It was a statement and not a question. “Aside from needing to become a bit faster, learn how to use your surroundings. Debris can be used to intercept spells, if you do not have the time to dodge them.” Alina began, using your surroundings was always a good thing, as it allowed you to move a bit more freely. “And for the love of Merlin, learn more spells. Sure, being great at a handful of spells is useful, but being good at many more is also helpful.” Here she was offering free information. Sure, the kid was a student, but apparently had already seen battle out there in the real world. Alina had her fair share of scars, but nothing prominent nor as extensive as Moody had. And for that she was thankful. But she did not pity the kid.
“Now the real question is do you believe that dark witches and wizards deserve a second chance or multiples in some cases. Or should they be killed?” Sure, it was a moral question, and whatever answer she got would help her determine if Moody was in Dumbledore’s corner or if he had his own morals, and not borrowed ones.

With her answer, there was a grin that grew on Moody's face. Ah, so she wasn't just a mindless drone. That was very good. He was already starting to like her a bit. Tough, willing to die for a cause, a fighter. He could see the two of them getting along – even if it was just professionally. At least he wouldn't want to fight her every second he was around her. Unless it was for some friendly sparring, then possibly. "Seems we won't have issues. It would be a shame to be on opposite sides of this war." Moody wasn't an idiot – he knew they needed as many good fighters as they could get. Death Eaters played dirty. 'Moral' people had issues with killing and doing what was needed at times. Moody? He was willing to do whatever he needed.
"Smart," He grunted, feeling a bit like a dunce for having to have that told to him – he knew it, he just wasn't that great at doing those sorts of things. This new eye for one made things hard because he wasn't quite used to it – once he got used to it, he was sure he'd be better than he was before, an easier time taking in the whole battlefield and using it to his advantage. "I'll ask Flitwick and McKay for a few books." He didn't quite like books, but he knew their value – people before figured out spells and the best ways to do things – why waste that knowledge? "Then I'll practice them on my own." He nodded.
Staring at her with a completely blank look, he thought for a moment. A moral quandary. He knew Dumbledore was incredibly soft when it came to things like that – and he'd heard a lot about his relationship with a certain dark wizard, seeing as the two of them were actually incredibly close – closer than any other student he supposed. He'd call Dumbledore a friend, but that didn't mean he agreed with everything the man said. "No second chances… without precedent. If they've proven themselves somehow despite everything, then perhaps. But not every person is born with an intrinsic right for a second chance because they've made a mistake. They have to work for that chance. Everyone also do not have the right to the chance for their second chance, to prove themselves 'reformed', but killed? Only if it is necessary. In a fight for my life, I sure as hell will fight to kill them. But if they are captured, the cowards deserve a punishment – and there are so many things worse than death. A dementor's kiss is one I'm particularly fond of."

Well that was a thing then wasn’t it. Being on the same side of things. Which she hoped that she would be able to help many come out of it alive. If not oh well. “Flitwick has some rather good books, and I’m sure that he has added to his collection since I last saw him. McKay, from what I hear isn’t all too competent as a teacher. So, I wouldn’t hold my breath on anything he says or gives you. If you find their books lacking, I have a rather extensive library, that I’m sure you could find many useful books in. Mind you they aren’t light either. I have books on all kinds of magic, even those of questionable nature, and dark ones as well.” The last bit was an offer, she wouldn’t mind sharing her knowledge with him. Obviously, she would only let him use certain books. Can’t have someone knowing all of your tricks.
“Well if you’re ever looking for someone to fight against, during your practice, I’m sure Flitwick would help you. And if I have the time to do so, I’m sure that I could help you.” There she goes making another offer. She had been a little impressed when she had read his file, and had seen him in action, however brief it was. Plus, she saw some major potential in Moody.
Alina smiled at that answer and gave Moody a slight nod. “Well it seems that we are not so different, you and I, in that regard. I think we’ll get off swimmingly.” She couldn’t help it, and maybe she had found a friend, or maybe just maybe a protégé, that is if Moody wanted to learn from her. She wouldn’t mind helping him out. “Now, I’ve seen your file, but tell me, what subjects and or areas of magic are you most interested in?”

Moody let out a gruff laugh and shook his head. "No, McKay isn't very competent as a teacher. However, there are certain tests aurors have to go through, so he has to have some sort experience. Sometimes the best teacher isn't what is said, but what actions are taken. That, and if he has books, they're the teacher, not him."
He looked at her for a moment. She was offering him some books on less than savory subjects. Normally he had to talk to Dumbledore about specific things to learn about – while normally he was granted permission by the headmaster (Slughorn wouldn't let him when he talked to him for some reason, the squirrely man). He still had to have a reason for it on that specific knowledge. He was pretty sure Dumbledore allowed it because he knew that he'd go for it no matter if he had permission or not. It was better for both of them if he had access – as long as it wasn't something very bad.
"It would be good to have some… extra reading without Dumbledore breathing down my neck. Understandable, but annoying."
Flitwick? That made sense. He was one of the best duelers out there. However, he was afraid the professor would go easy on him, and he didn't want that. Yet she offered to duel him at some point. He chuckled harshly and shook his head. "So long as you promise not to go easy on me, I think it would be an interesting experience."
He raised an eyebrow looking to her for a moment before he began to respond. "That depends on what you mean by 'interested in'. I'm interested in the dark arts in order to combat them. Otherwise charms are… what I'm best in and find more appealing for actually using."

Alina shook her head a little bit at hearing another, not a complaint but a review as it were, of McKay and that he wasn’t cut out to be a teacher. “There are in fact certain tests and one of them is being front of being in front of groups of people of all ages, something you learn in training is mob tactics and how to handle them. Clearly, he skipped that class, or forgot from what I’ve heard about him.” At least Moody had a good solution, use the man to get books off of him. Simply a Slytherin move.
“Very annoying. Almost like he wants you to turn out a certain way.” At least that is how she thought of it. Dumbledore was not someone she liked dealing with but did so nonetheless. At least he wasn’t trying to monitor or influence her in any way. Otherwise there would be hell to pay for him. “I let you have a look some time, and these books cannot, be found by anyone and I mean that.” She was taking a chance here and she knew it. Because some of the books that she would lend to Moody, were rather rare and she didn’t want to lose them.
“I never go easy on anyone. Either you are up to it or you aren’t, and if you aren’t going find something else to do. We will establish some ground rules when and if we fight, but other than that it sounds like a good place to start as any.”
Alina smirked a little bit. “Well like I said I have books, and some good knowledge about the dark arts from personal experience. And charms are quite useful in any situation.” She stated, before falling silent giving Moody a chance to ask any questions that he had or anything in general. It was always a good thing for her to let others ask questions, some of which she would answer with questions of her own or she would give them an answer. But the real question was, just how curious was the 7th year before her.

He pursed his lips and shrugged lightly. "Or they've lowered their standards. It's unfortunate seeing someone so apparently weak as an Auror. It's supposed to be the highest regarded position in the current climate. I'll have to change that so Aurors demand the respect they deserve. And get rid of those who don't deserve it." It was a bit upsetting to see someone who seems so bad at their job in the job he wanted to have when he graduated. He would turn that department around as best as he could.
"What's your price?" He eyed her for a moment. He'd never met someone without an ulterior motive. He just wanted to know hers. He was a paranoid little man, but one couldn't blame him given everything that had happened to him. Plus, she had those books – and she had to go through some hoops to get them with how the Ministry regulated things like that. However, he wasn't going to let that get in the way of his own ambition.
"I would be arrogant to say I am completely ready to fight someone with far more experience than me, but I am also willing to rise to the challenge."

“You are quite right in regards to the lower standards. They also have way too many rules that are unnecessary and only hinder the aurors.” She stated knowing that things would have to change otherwise things would go from bad to worse in a few simple moves anyone could crush the force. They were lax in almost everything accepts for a few people, like the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Gaius Greengrass had been there when she had been an auror, and she still ran into him from time to time. The man was paranoid but good at what he did. “I find that with you close to graduating, I have a hunch that you might get along well with the head of the DMLE as he is seeking to turn things around concerning the department. At least from what I have heard and knowing Gaius I am sure things will change. Mind you he is quite paranoid and brash but he is very good at what he does.”
“I don’t have a price for this. I think that you have what it takes to be one of the best out there, and if I can help you get there then I will. I need to know that there will be people that I can trust to have my back one day, and even now. If the school or Hogsmeade is attacked at any point, I need people that I can count on. Also keep anything I share with you to yourself. Like the books for instance, or any of the more questionable spells that you might learn from me.” Alina only wanted another person that she could trust, and that, if it came down to it, she would have someone watching her back. “Now I will only share this information with you if you know occlumency. Because, like I said this information cannot be shared with anyone.” She knew the risk, and if he didn’t know then it wouldn’t be hard to obliviate him at all, even with him being a little paranoid.
“Good. I expect you to hold nothing back. That is if you are a man of your word, and will rise to the challenge as you say.”

Paranoid? Brash? That really sounded like his sort of guy. He was already excited about it. With someone like that at the helm, they might well change it around for the better. He thought to himself for a moment – he knew they did internships for seventh years. Yes, he already had a plan – not only would he study under Alina, he would get himself an internship there so he could view first hand if this guy was like Alina was describing him.
"You needn't worry about occlumency. I've been training to be an auror since I was young. I've trained myself quite well. Now legilimens I'm not quite so good at. Hell, I was captured by Death Eaters this summer and when I escaped, they didn't even get my name out of me," He barked with laughter, "Then again, they put me up against some weak morons. Probably underestimated me because of my age." His laughter sobered up and he looked at her. "Though I did put up a good fight. Lost my eye. I was very outnumbered, but I took out a few before I was done." He taps his fake eye.
"I may be a Slytherin, but my word is my law. I will not break it."
