Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It had been years since the last time he was here; he had visited the school a few times after graduating, but had little reason to be there, and he wasn't the type of man to waste his time with useless endeavours. In spite of that, he had a pretty decent reason to visit the school on this very day, and the fact that he was on Hogsmeade made it timely.
Gaius apparated just within the limits of the magical barriers around Hogwarts' grounds. It was a bit of a nuisance that the castle was impervious to the convenient means of transporting, but it was for a very good reason. With large, unwavering steps, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement made his way to the castle, more specifically to the entrance that led to the Great Hall. There weren't many students down there by the time Gaius got inside. His sharp eyes analyzed the room briefly until they rested upon the hourglasses containing the house points that were awarded this year. The wizard scoffed as he saw the poor performance of his old house, that was currently second to last. "This is preposterous." he spoke to himself, shaking his head before sighing.
Without realizing, he had already made his way to the hourglasses, carefully examining them all, drifting away from reality to go back to his years attending the school. He wasn't on the spotlight back then, he wasn't playing any sports, or aiming to become a prefect. His marks were incredible, but other than that, he was mostly unnoticeable by most students; his focus was elsewhere, already on the wizard world, focusing on his great ambitions. His hand was now touching the glass of the Slytherin hourglass and while his eyes were focusing on it, his mind was elsewhere, he was distracted.
Being a former Auror, Gaius wasn't a man to let his guard down, but Hogwarts brought him this weird sense of safety, regardless of the fact that he was getting some alarming reports of traces of Death Eater activity and recruiting. Suddenly, he shook his head, coming back to reality and restoring his focus: he was searching for a man, an Auror named David McKay.

David was a bit busy procuring himself the dementor for his next lesson. He was pulling some favors and strings, but he got the permissions he needed from the department that controlled the dementors – therefore he didn't need his own Law Enforcement Head to approve it. Which is why when David entered the Great Hall, he immediately turned around and hid around a corner. Why was he here? He didn't do anything wrong – oh wait.
He took a few breaths in and as he calmed down a bit, he realized he was probably just here to check in on his progress. After all, David McKay had been assigned to find Theodore Blake for ten years now, and still hadn't found him. Plus, he was supposed to report to him about what was going on at Hogwarts and things like that. It was one of the conditions of the job when he volunteered after Dumbledore asked for some ministry volunteers. Dumbledore seemed to like him the most. Probably because, somehow, he likely knew about his… situation. Somehow. Dumbledore seemed to know about everything.
Either way, he just needed to calm down. He remembered David talked about how he went to school with this guy. Luckily, David wasn't very close to just about anyone in general, though he was friendly with just about everyone he came across. Damn Hufflepuff nature. That was okay, Gaius probably had noticed the change over time anyways that he had played off as just growing older. However, he knew this guy was extraordinarily smart. David had brought over some files back when he was still alive for Theo to study. This guy got really good marks, Slytherin to boot. Careful. Careful. It's okay, before this you reported to him all the time. Just act natural.
David walked back into the Great Hall and right up to him. "Sir. How's it going?"

With the multicoloured hourglasses now behind him, his sharp eyes continued to look around the area in search of any member of staff, so they could bring him to the man he was looking for. Seemed just like bad timing to be there, since the Great Hall was usually a good place to be if you wanted to find people in Hogwarts. But then he noticed something, a blur just around a corner. His dark eyes narrowed and he touched his chin, intrigued by the sudden movement his perceptive eyes didn't fail to catch.
Slowly but steadily, Gaius began to walk towards the direction of the blur, but before he could take more than a few steps, a person appeared from that same direction and it happened to be the person he was looking for, and that just further intrigued him. Did he just walked away? Or was Gaius just imagining things? Well, he decided it was not important to dwell into that for the time being, if needed, he could just think about it later using a pensieve; he liked to review his daily tasks and analyze what he did well and where he could still further improve. It was good to be that meticulous, even though it took quite a lot of his time. Ultimately, it helped he was reclusive, lonely man with not many hobbies.
"How's it going? Huh." he repeated, mostly to himself, bewildered by his choice of a greeting to the Head of the Department. "That question being asked, I suppose I could waste both our times and get into a small talk. I would say I'm good, you would say the same and we would pretend to have a pleasant conversation." he said somewhat of a smile on his face that quickly faded away as his expression became more serious. "Unfortunately, I'm not the type, but you know that. It has been ten years, Mr. McKay. And I know the previous Head of the Department was quite lenient with deadlines and progress reports, but I'm not. I mean... Maybe I would be..." he curled his lips, shrugging. "But since you found some time to also teach here, I'm assuming you are handling your other job exquisitely, and I would like to hear about that." he added, not in the friendliest tone.

David smiled. Oh, he thought he had told him what his whole reason for coming here was – apparently, he didn't get the report – or the last head of department didn't tell him. Even though his real reason was because no one else would take the job and he felt guilty because he had been friends with young Tom, he had a nice clever way to cover it up and make it seem like he needed to come here for his other job – which was catching Theodore Blake, himself.
"I'm sure I told the previous head, but ah, its fine," He waved it off, completely disregarding the non-friendly tone Gaius had used. Theo thought back and remembered that David had mentioned him before – so they new each other. But David didn't say much, so they couldn't have been incredibly close friends – so at least there was that. "It's probably not smart to talk in the middle of the hall without some sort of privacy." McKay waved his wand casting a spell so only they could hear what they were talking about and no one else could overhear them.
"As I'm sure you're aware, I am the head auror on the case of Theodore Blake, escaped after his sentencing and disappearing. Given the fact he's a registered Metamorphagus, it makes it much more difficult than a usual case. I have come to believe that Theodore had a child – while we've been keeping an eye on his lover from school, Druella Black, we believe her eldest daughter is not her husband's child but Theodore's. If that is the case, his granddaughter is currently attending Hogwarts. I have a few things that indicate he might be coming here this year to meet his granddaughter and take over the identity of one of the faculty."
