History The firstborn soon of Ernest Arturious Greengrass and Cassiopeia Greengrass (née Black), his pedigree came from two of the families known as the Sacred Tewnty-Eight, both of which have espoused the philosophy of Pure-blood supremacy. The environment in which Gaius grew was very close to royalty, with a great number of house-elf servants, plenty of wealth and connections to many important families that were responsible for manipulating the wizarding world politics. The boy born with half of his path already defined for him and he only had to be molded into becoming the wizard his family wanted him to be. And he was a willing student of those ways. The fact that he was the firstborn and also the first grandson to be born from both sides of his family tree made him have quite the spotlight for the vast majority of his childhood; his first sibling was only born when he was already nine years old, and that family situation also helped molding his self-serving and arrogant personality.
His upbringing, however, wasn't without accomplishments. He learned his first lessons on being a wizard with his parents at a tender age and showed remarkable ability to learn, even going as far as to be able to cast some accidental spells without a wand or without need to voice any incantation, though only the later skill would blossom in the future. He knew, in his core, that he was destined to greatness and was eager to start his formal education, and his actual first steps into fully joining the wizard society.
HOGWARTS
Like everyone else before him, Gaius was sorted into Slytherin; the sorting hat barely had to touch his head to know what kind of person he was and he was fully satisfied with that. Other than a few individual traits, such as the bravery of Gryffindor, or the cleverness of Ravenclaw, he despised the very ideal of not sporting the green of his parent's house. In Hogwarts, his ability to cast spells without the verbal component continue to develop after his third year, and it only grew to the point he, by his seventh year, would only need to use his voice to cast the most complex spells. He loved school and didn't bother returning home on the holidays, as he thought it was a perfect opportunity to focus on his education without that many people to get in the way. He was a man on a quest for power and knowledge and therefore he had little time to waste with his own family, or even with frivolities such as Quidditch (although he did enjoy playing every now and then and watching it).
By his sixth year, his father began teaching him in the ways of the Dark Arts and tried to teach him both Occlumency and Legilimency, but he only showed promise - great promise, however - on the later, mastering that before the end of his days in Hogwarts. His skill as a duelist was also developed, but he opted to keep a low profile on his Hogwarts year, to the point that most of his peers would only see him as a brilliant student, but one who didn't accomplish much, other than attaining great marks. He kept to himself, and though it was better this way.
POST-HOGWARTS: AUROR YEARS
With his impressive marks, he was able to join the Ministry of Magic as an Auror, but not without some controversy; his parents were suspected of being affiliated with the Death Eaters, and therefore, Gaius was subjected to many interviews and was almost subjected to Veritaserum (which was later discarded by his pure-blood status and his school record). Gaius was a great auror, quite dedicated to his job and very competent, but notwithstanding that, he knew there was little room for him to grow because of the everlasting suspicion of his family's true loyalty and he realized he needed to join another office; he wasn't going to be satisfied with a lower position such as being an auror for the rest of his life. He worked as an Auror for nearly six years when he moved to another office within the same Department.
WIZENGAMOT ADMINISTRATION SERVICES
Gaius managed to transfer himself to the Wizengamot Administration Services, landing in the opportune position of Wizengamot, position in which he thrived. Although an excellent duelist and Auror, Gaius skill set was more appropriate to a court/parliament-like work environment, and he embraced the opportunity with tooth and nail, participating in important hearings and developing some important judicial precedent for forthcoming judgments. His incredible work cleared his path to power as he landed in the top position of the office, becoming Chief Warlock with just a decade in service. His ambition continued to grow, and so did his thirst for power.
HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MAGICAL LAW ENFORCEMENT
For some, becoming Chief Warlock would be a the final step in achieving their ultimate ambition, but for Gaius it was but a stepping stone into a much longer and rewarding path. His immersion into politics was what made him neutral to the conflicts of the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters, especially now that he hadn't been an Auror for a very long time. If he was to be honest, he would lean more towards the dark path, as he was a purist and supremacist, but he had no time to waste being a minion for someone else. No, he was destined to greatness, and wouldn't settle for less than that. Abdicating pretty much all of the pettiness of his life, he managed to be recognized beyond his family name alone. He wasn't just the heir of the Greengrass family now, he was Gaius. This recognition came in the form of his most recent promotion; at the tender age of thirty-six, Gaius retired his mantle of Chief Warlock to become the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, rejoicing with his own success.
Now there was but a single step to fulfill his ambition: to become the Minister of Magic.
